Called Japanese PM Suga Yoshihide (菅義偉) over the phone this afternoon. Had hoped to meet in person at the Shangri-La Dialogue, but the conference could not be convened because of COVID-19. I thanked PM Suga for accepting the invitation to be this year’s keynote speaker, and expressed regret that we would miss hearing him speak.
I told PM Suga I looked forward to strengthening the excellent ties between our countries, and invited him to visit Singapore once conditions permitted. – LHL
